20 Ulsan Festivals and Events Receiving More Than 100 Million Won in Support Face Possible Abolition

[Financial News Ulsan = Reporter Choi Su-sang] As a result of the 'Festival and Event Citizen Jury Forum' led by Ulsan Metropolitan City, opinions were expressed to abolish 20 festivals or events with budgets of 100 million won or more hosted by local media outlets and civil society organizations in Ulsan.
Lee Young-hwan, Director of Financial Planning for Ulsan Metropolitan City, held a press briefing on the 28th and announced the list of related festivals and events.
Among the 20 projects under consideration, the culture and performance sector had the most, with seven. This was followed by festivals and events with six, sports and health with four, and economy and industry with three.
Among the culture and performance projects, the Family Love Concert, Go-Retro, Immortal Songs in Ulsan, I LOVE Ulsan Citizen Concert, Ulsan Office Worker Song Festival, Mr. Jung-ki's Family Day Concert, and 2026 International Private Exchange were included among the projects under consideration.
The festivals and events were the International Woodblock Print Festival, Ulsan Industrial Festival, Ulsan Rice Cake and Bread Mill Festival, Ulsan Food Culture Festival, Ulsan Pet Festival, and Taehwa River National Garden Summer Festival.
The economy and industry projects were the Ulsan Export Plaza, Ulsan Innovation Conference, and Ulsan Health Expo commemorating Health Day, while the sports and health projects proposed for abolition were the World-class University Rowing Festival, the Village and Neighborhood Heads Sports Day, the Bicycle Grand Festival, and the Haeoreum Lifestyle Sports Grand Festival.
Ulsan Metropolitan City will review the effectiveness, appropriateness of the budget allocation, and need for continued operation before deciding whether to include the projects in the 2027 budget.

Lee Young-hwan, Director of Financial Planning, said, "The abolition of the 20 projects announced this time has not been finalized," adding, "I want to make it clear that the jury's opinions are merely reference material."
Meanwhile, the 'Festival and Event Citizen Jury Forum' was held on the 19th. A total of 99 citizens selected through a resident registration-based quota sampling method for the festival and citizen jury were divided into three groups and nine teams. They reviewed a total of 84 projects with budgets of 100 million won or more from the citizens' perspective and discussed whether they should continue.
