Mo Su-min lost 0-10 to Pokizakhon Kamoldinova of Uzbekistan in the women's 78kg final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held at the Aichi Prefectural Budokan in Nagoya, Japan, on the 28th.
She had been unstoppable on her way to the final. Mo Su-min defeated a Mongolian opponent by 'halol' (a full point) in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she earned a 'yonbosh' (a half point) against India's Pincky Balhara, leaving her one bout away from the gold medal.
Her final opponent was Kamoldinova, Uzbekistan's 'absolute powerhouse' and a representative of kurash's birthplace. Mo Su-min grabbed her opponent's jacket and actively attempted throws, but she could not break through Kamoldinova's tactical control. Her dream of winning her first gold medal was ultimately deferred to the next Games, and she finished on the second step of the podium.
Kurash, Uzbekistan's traditional martial art, resembles judo but does not allow ground techniques such as pinning, choking, or joint locks. Matches are decided through standing exchanges in which athletes throw each other.
South Korea previously won a silver medal through Kim Min-gyu in the men's 90kg division and a bronze through Jeong Yun-jong in the men's over-90kg division at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Mo Su-min is the first Korean woman to reach the final.
