Yonsei University Honors Missionaries Kim Wan-il and Kim Yong-dae with Underwood Missionary Award for Their Overseas Service and Educational Work

[Financial News] Yonsei University has selected two local activists who have devoted many years to education and community development in Indonesia, India and other overseas locations as this year's recipients of the Underwood Missionary Award.
Yonsei University's Underwood Memorial Foundation announced on the 28th that it had selected missionaries Kim Wan-il and Kim Yong-dae as the recipients of the 26th Underwood Missionary Award.
Since 1996, missionary Kim Wan-il has run three local kindergartens in Jakarta, Indonesia, and continued his community service by distributing boxed meals weekly to residents of impoverished neighborhoods. In particular, he has worked to create an environment in which local communities can become self-reliant by operating educational programs to train local leaders and providing scholarships.
Since 2000, missionary Kim Yong-dae has carried out education and support projects to promote the growth of children and adolescents, mainly in northern India. Alongside ongoing community development initiatives, including well construction and improvements to living conditions, he has expanded communication channels with local residents by using contemporary cultural and media tools such as short-form videos and artificial intelligence (AI).
The award ceremony will be held on October 12 at Yonsei University's Luce Chapel in Seoul's Seodaemun District.
The Underwood Missionary Award was established to honor the spirit of service and devotion shown by missionary Horace Grant Underwood and his wife, who founded Yonsei University. Yonsei University holds the ceremony each year around the anniversary of Underwood's death to recognize the achievements of recipients who have dedicated themselves to service around the world.
