Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Wins Azerbaijan Grand Prix

[Financial News] The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team strengthened its lead in the Constructors’ Championship after George Russell won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Russell secured his third win of the season with a pole-to-win performance, finishing first in both qualifying and the race. The gap to Ferrari, which sits second in the team standings, widened to 160 points.
Russell crossed the finish line first in 1 hour, 38 minutes and 02.143 seconds at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the 15th round of the 2026 F1 World Championship, held on the 26th local time. The victory marked his eighth career win in F1.
In qualifying the previous day, he secured pole position with a time of 1 minute and 42.526 seconds. He was the only driver among the qualifying entrants to post a time in the 1:42 range. Russell also started the race from the front and won, while recording the fastest lap of the event.
Russell said, "There were many tense moments throughout the race, but it was a fantastic race—so much so that I would rank it as the best of my F1 career. I will work to carry this momentum forward and compete at the front in the remaining races."
The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team has accumulated 538 points in the Constructors’ Championship with this victory. By extending its lead over Ferrari, the team maintained the upper hand in the championship race.
The race car deployed this season is the "Mercedes-AMG F1 W17 E Performance." It is equipped with a new hybrid power unit developed by Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains to meet the 2026 regulations.
The power unit was integrated with the car’s cooling architecture and aerodynamic design. It was developed with a focus on ensuring thermal stability and energy efficiency, from sections with heavy regenerative braking to those driven at full throttle.
