KOBC to Unveil Eco-Friendly Ship Equipment Demonstration Results in Busan on the 30th

[Financial News] Korea Ocean Business Corporation (KOBC) will share operational data gathered by applying eco-friendly equipment to vessels in service with industry representatives on the 30th.
KOBC announced on the 28th that it will hold a seminar titled "Seminar on the Results of At-Sea Demonstrations of Fuel-Saving Equipment and Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems" that afternoon in the main conference room of the Korea Maritime Cooperation Center in Jung-gu, Busan.
The seminar was organized to share the results of applying eco-friendly equipment to ships with representatives from shipping companies, shipyards, and the marine equipment industry, while providing information needed by small and midsize shipping companies to adopt such equipment. Its significance lies in sharing performance confirmed through vessel operations and validation results, rather than merely introducing the technologies.
The global shipping industry has recently seen growing adoption of eco-friendly ship technologies to reduce carbon emissions. However, small and midsize shipping companies often find it difficult to verify the actual fuel-saving effects and economic feasibility of new equipment in advance. They also lack sufficient resources to invest in their own demonstrations, making them hesitant to adopt the technologies.
KOBC plans to improve understanding of eco-friendly equipment by sharing the results of its application in actual vessel operations through the seminar. It will also provide demonstration data that shipping companies can use when considering whether to adopt the equipment.
The main sessions will cover case studies of at-sea demonstrations of energy-saving devices (ESD) and the results of at-sea demonstrations of wind-assisted propulsion systems. Presentations will also address the current technological level of wind-assisted propulsion systems, guidelines for estimating their performance, and the results of third-party ESD verification.
KOBC expects the seminar to help shipping companies considering the adoption of eco-friendly equipment make more specific assessments of the technologies' advantages, disadvantages, and applicability.
Ahn Byeong-gil, president of KOBC, said, "For eco-friendly ship technologies to be applied in real-world operations, sharing validated demonstration data is as important as technology development." He added, "I hope this seminar will give the shipping industry an opportunity to examine the performance and applicability of eco-friendly equipment together and discuss practical ways to adopt it."
