More Than 10 PET Bottles Filled with Rice Found in Tidal Flats on Yeongjong Island; Police Investigate Those Who Released Them

[Financial News] Police have launched an investigation after more than 10 PET bottles filled with rice were found in the tidal flats on Yeongjong Island, Incheon.
According to the Incheon Yeongjong Police Station on the 28th, police and the Coast Guard received reports from anglers at around 11 p.m. the previous day that PET bottles filled with rice had been found in the tidal flats beneath Muui Bridge in Muui-dong, Yeongjong-gu.
The Coast Guard, which responded to the scene, found and collected about 10 1.5-liter PET bottles from the tidal flats.
All of the bottles contained rice, and one or two of them were also found to contain U.S. one-dollar bills.
Police are investigating to identify the person or people who released the bottles and determine where they were released. They also plan to examine whether the bottles were intended to be sent northward.
Earlier, there had been a series of attempts to release PET bottles filled with rice northward from Incheon's areas bordering North Korea.
Last June, six Americans were arrested by police while attempting to release more than 1,300 PET bottles containing rice, one-dollar bills and Bibles northward for missionary purposes.
A police official said, "The location from which the PET bottles were released has not yet been identified," adding, "We plan to continue the investigation while keeping various possibilities open."
