[Financial News] With the Chuseok holiday ending, the three major department store chains are launching their fall seasonal sales simultaneously. They are moving to secure shopping demand ahead of October, which is considered a key peak shopping period because holidays continue throughout the month. The department stores are seeking to attract customers by adding experiential and cultural events to their discount benefits.
According to the department store industry on the 29th, Lotte Department Store will hold its fall seasonal sale at all stores from the first through the 11th of next month. Participating brands will offer discounts of up to 40%, while weekend promotions will provide Lotte Department Store gift certificates worth 5% to 10% of customers' purchase amounts.
Shinsegae Department Store will hold its fall seasonal sale, 'Only SHINSEGAE SALE,' at all stores from the first through the 18th of next month. More than 300 brands in fashion, sports and household goods will participate, offering discounts of up to 60%. Participating fashion brands include Bonispax, Son Jung Wan and Brownbreath, while Nike, PUMA Korea and Andar will take part in the sports category.
During the same period, Hyundai Department Store will hold 'The Sale' at stores nationwide, offering fall new products from more than 200 fashion, living and sports brands at discounts of up to 60%. Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch will host 'Beauty Festa' from the second through the eighth of next month, offering cosmetics and other products from 48 brands at discounts of up to 70%. Hyundai Department Store Mokdong Branch will hold 'Golf Battle,' with golf apparel and shoes discounted by up to 70%.
The department store industry is launching its seasonal sales to attract the growing number of shoppers during the fall. October is generally considered a key peak shopping period for the retail industry because holidays continue throughout the month. Last year, the number of customers who made purchases at Lotte Department Store in October was the second-highest of the year, behind December. Accordingly, the department stores are once again seeking to attract customers by adding experiential content to their discount events.
Lotte Department Store will hold 'Lotte Active Week,' a sports and outdoor event, at its department stores, malls and outlets through the 18th of next month. On the ninth and 10th of next month, Lotte Mall Gimpo Airport Branch will host 'LOTTE Active Festival,' where visitors can try pickleball and learn how to set up a tent. Lotte Department Store Incheon Branch, Lotte Department Store Nowon Branch and Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch will offer outdoor classes in partnership with brands such as NEPA.
Shinsegae Department Store has also prepared content that combines shopping with outings. At the first-floor Open Stage of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam Branch, it will open a pop-up store for 'Jump Shop,' the official store of Japanese publisher Shueisha. At its main store, it will present artist Bahk Seon Ghi's 'The Origin of Space (THE ORIGIN OF SPACE)' through the 19th of next month.
Hyundai Department Store will present 'Joseon's Haute Couture' every weekend on the first floor of The Hyundai Seoul. A procession of 24 people dressed in royal court attire that combines traditional hanbok with a modern sensibility will move through the store, providing a visual spectacle. Hyundai Department Store Trade Center Branch will host a jazz performance on the third of next month, while Hyundai Department Store KINTEX Branch will hold a paper-airplane-flying contest in its Sky Garden on the fourth.
A Hyundai Department Store official said, "We prepared this event so customers can enjoy a variety of discount events and diverse cultural content all at once during the fall season, when more people go out as the weather turns cooler," adding, "We will continue to present content that provides customers visiting our department stores with a differentiated shopping experience."
