[Financial News] A forum will be held to share the innovation achievements of seafood companies and spread best practices among regions as the blue food industry rapidly expands worldwide.
Busan Metropolitan City Government announced on the 28th that it will hold the 'Blue Food Value-Up Day' event on the afternoon of the 29th at BPEX in Dong-gu, Busan.
More than 100 people from Busan Metropolitan City Government, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), Gyeonggi Province, South Chungcheong Province (Chungnam), South Gyeongsang Province, seafood companies, academia, related organizations and associations, and expert groups are expected to attend. The event will feature a keynote speech, a presentation on the overall achievements of the support project for the advancement of seafood companies in Busan, an exhibition of blue food products and networking, and presentations of achievements by outstanding companies.
In the keynote speech, Lee Gi-won, chair of the World Food Tech Council, will share the latest trends in blue food tech and its future development. Nam Byeong-hyeok, director of the Blue Food Center at Busan Techno Park, will then present the overall achievements of the support project for seafood companies in Busan.
At the presentation of achievements by outstanding companies, five participating companies from Busan, Gyeonggi Province, Chungnam, and South Gyeongsang Province will introduce their growth stories stemming from participation in projects such as product development and branding.
From Busan, Cheongsanae Food will present its development of high-value-added organic gim snacks using organic grain ingredients, while Myeongseong Food will present its development of gluten-free fish snacks made with flour rice.
Busan Metropolitan City Government has invested KRW 3.3 billion in national and municipal funds to provide customized support to 26 local seafood companies, including new product development, technology advancement, branding, and promotional activities. As a result, the city helped develop 26 new products in 2024 and 2025, secure technological capabilities in 14 cases, and create new jobs.
Beginning in the early stages of the project, the city connected participating companies with product planners from major domestic distributors to support customer-oriented product development and expand sales channels. This generated KRW 4 billion in new sales and laid the groundwork for the companies to grow from 'startups' into 'strong SMEs.'
Shim Jae-min, director of Busan Metropolitan City Government's Marine Capital Strategy Office, said, "I hope this event will serve as an opportunity for local governments and companies nationwide to share Busan's achievements and create new opportunities for cooperation and business."
