[Financial News] Korea Investment & Securities is organizing a session to introduce new financing structures, including data center project financing (PF) and GPU financing, with a focus on the rapidly growing AI infrastructure market.
As the AI data center market expands, financing methods for large-scale infrastructure development are also changing. The session is intended to share market trends and financing cases.
Korea Investment & Securities, a subsidiary of Korea Investment Holdings, said on the 28th that it would hold a briefing session on data center PF and GPU financing structures on the 30th at its headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, for institutional investors, construction companies, asset managers and AI infrastructure operators.
The session was organized to examine the current state of Korea's data center development finance market and discuss ways to apply GPU financing, which has recently drawn attention in global markets, in Korea.
About 230 industry officials attended the first session held on the 18th. In response to the strong market interest, Korea Investment & Securities will hold a second briefing session.
Practitioners from Korea Investment & Securities' PF Group and Research Division will serve as speakers, covering data centers and AI infrastructure finance in general.
The main sessions will cover the latest shifts in the data center industry and the transition to AI factories; the structural characteristics of data center PF and financing arrangement cases; overseas financing cases involving AI-focused cloud companies and ways to apply them in Korea; and funding solutions through institutional-only private equity fund (PEF) structures.
As AI services have spread rapidly, data centers have evolved from facilities focused mainly on storing and processing data into high-density infrastructure for AI computing. As a result, the amount of funding required to develop and operate data centers, along with their financing structures, has emerged as a key area of interest.
GPU financing will be a particular focus of the session. It is a securitized financing structure based on future cash flows generated by contracts for using GPUs, which are high-performance computing resources.
As demand for ultra-high-power, high-density AI data centers grows with the spread of generative AI and Agentic AI, the cost of procuring GPUs has become an important factor in data center projects.
Korea Investment & Securities will introduce financing cases involving overseas AI-focused cloud companies and examine financing structures that could be applied to the Korean market.
A Korea Investment & Securities official said, "As the AI infrastructure market grows rapidly, discussions on GPU financing and structured finance are taking place sporadically in Korea as well, but relevant information remains very limited."
The official added, "Based on our comprehensive capabilities, including the track record we have built in the data center PF market and our expertise in PEFs, we will lead the development of the domestic market while contributing to the growth of the AI infrastructure industry."
