[Financial News]  The Unity game engine will support Meta VR Glasses, a next-generation virtual reality (VR) device, from the day it is unveiled. Developers will be able to develop and test content before the official launch of the VR Glasses, scheduled for spring 2027. The initiative is expected to help uncover additional content and expand the base of new extended reality (XR) users.
According to industry sources on the 28th, studios developing launch titles are already using Unity to create content for the VR Glasses.
Existing Meta Quest apps run on the VR Glasses, allowing studios to extend OpenXR-based titles as-is through their current workflows. Teams developing content for the VR Glasses can take advantage of Unity's expanded eye- and hand-tracking support, rendering modes that reduce graphics processing unit (GPU) costs without sacrificing visual quality, and enhanced spatial audio support. They can also directly test and preview VR Glasses interactions in the Unity Editor without the physical device, allowing them to prepare content for immediate delivery to players from launch day.
Developers can start immediately by using Unity 6.6 or later, or by downloading or upgrading to Meta XR All-in-One SDK v207 from the Unity Asset Store. They can also combine Unity's CLI workflow with the AI tools included in the Meta SDK to begin development more quickly.
