“A Forest Retreat in the City”... National Recreation Forests to Host “Hyu-Culture Day” in Yongin

[Financial News] A forest culture event will be held in the city, allowing visitors to experience the value of forests and the diverse culture of National Recreation Forests firsthand.
 The National Recreation Forest Management Office of the Korea Forest Service (KFS) said on the 28th that it will host the 2026 National Recreation Forest Forest Culture Event, “Hyu-Culture Day (in Yongin),” at Dongbaek Lake Park in Yongin Special City, Gyeonggi Province, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the 3rd of next month. The event was designed to give people an opportunity to become more familiar with National Recreation Forests in their daily lives and experience a variety of forest culture programs.
 The event will bring together 24 National Recreation Forests nationwide, the Suwon National Forest Management Office of the Northern Regional Forest Service, the Korea Forest Welfare Professional Services Association and the Korea Forest Recreation and Welfare Association. Visitors can enjoy programs showcasing the unique features of each recreation forest, the “Hyu-Playground” featuring traditional and ecological games, a forest therapy program offering stress-level measurements and movement therapy, and a variety of other activities, including a wildfire firefighting experience for young children.
 A range of attractions and benefits will also be available. During the opening ceremony at 11 a.m., prizes including free weekday lodging vouchers at National Recreation Forests will be awarded through a drawing. Commemorative gifts will be given to visitors who take part in activities and show proof of subscribing to social media channels. Various cultural performances, including nanta and an ocarina ensemble, will also be presented, offering families visiting the park over the weekend plenty to enjoy.
 Kim Il-sook, head of the National Recreation Forest Management Office, said, "I hope many people will attend this event, experience the diverse forest culture programs offered by National Recreation Forests, and enjoy the rest and pleasure that forests provide. We will continue to expand a range of events that bring these experiences closer to the public."
 Meanwhile, Yongin Special City, where the event will be held, has recently accelerated efforts to build forest welfare infrastructure within urban living areas. As the city has undergone rapid urbanization after its population surpassed 1.1 million, demand is particularly high for green spaces and forest therapy programs in the city to improve residents’ living conditions and relieve stress.
