Gumi City Focuses Administrative Efforts on Securing Transferred Funds with Provincial Assembly Members

[Financial News | Gumi—Reporter Kim Jang-wook] Gumi City held discussions with district members of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council to ensure the smooth implementation of major pending projects and secure provincial funds.
Gumi City held a meeting on the 28th in the main conference room at City Hall. About 30 people, including the mayor, senior city officials and district members of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council, attended to share key municipal issues and discuss ways to secure provincial funds.
The meeting was arranged to strengthen cooperation between the city and the provincial council ahead of deliberations on Gyeongsangbuk-do's first main budget of the ninth popularly elected local-government term. The goal was to ensure the smooth implementation of Gumi's key projects and secure provincial funding.
Kim Jang-ho, mayor of Gumi, said, "As the central government expands the transfer of its programs to local governments, the role and cooperation of provincial lawmakers are more important than ever. I hope you will serve as a strong bridge connecting Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gumi as we pursue Gumi-style municipal innovation that all residents can feel, from advancing high-tech industries to revitalizing neighborhood commercial districts."
At the meeting, the city shared the direction and key details of major projects under the ninth popularly elected administration, including traditional market renewal, neighborhood economy revitalization, the Gumi Station plaza expansion project and the revitalization of elementary schools in township areas.
The participants exchanged detailed views on key municipal projects, including the designation and development of the Gumi Free Economic Zone; the hosting of the 2027 Gumi Sale Festa; efforts to attract the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History (Gumi Industrialization History Museum); the inclusion of the Gimcheon–Gumi–new airport railway in the national rail plan; and the establishment of a regional innovation cluster for smart food manufacturing and food tech.
The city also proposed several key projects for provincial funding, including the construction of a second wing of the Park Chung-hee Presidential Museum, the establishment of Mt. Cheonsaeng Kids Challenge Park and the creation of equipment-based infrastructure for an eco-friendly microorganism cultivation center. It explained the need to pursue advanced-industry projects, such as a shared factory specializing in defense and artificial intelligence (AI) and a Support Center for the Localization of Intelligent Humanoid Components, as well as citizen-focused projects with a direct impact on residents' daily lives, including expanded postpartum-care subsidies, the Small Business New Wind Change-Up Project and support for facility and environmental improvements at hygiene-related establishments to promote K-Hallyu. The city requested active support from the provincial council.
The district members of the provincial council who attended the meeting said, "We will join forces to secure the budget so that the major projects discussed can proceed without disruption. We will also devote our legislative capabilities to ensuring that Gumi's key projects are incorporated into Gyeongsangbuk-do's priority agenda and provide active support."
The city plans to maintain ongoing communication with district provincial lawmakers to secure momentum for its major projects and concentrate its administrative efforts on obtaining transferred fiscal resources, including regional government subsidies.
