Pet Dogs and Cats Can Receive Rabies Vaccinations for 5,000 Won from Oct. 16 to 30

[Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju—Reporter Hwang Tae-jong] "Have your pet dogs and cats vaccinated against rabies for 5,000 won from Oct. 16 to 30."
 Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City (Gwangju Special City) will conduct its fall rabies vaccination program from Oct. 16 to 30.
 Bae Gwisuk, head of the Agricultural and Animal Policy Division at Gwangju Special City, explained, "We are conducting rabies vaccinations to protect the health of beloved companion animals and ensure the safety of citizens."
 According to Gwangju Special City, rabies is a zoonotic disease that can be fatal to humans, making regular vaccinations essential to prevent infection. Accordingly, the city conducts rabies vaccination programs twice a year, in spring and fall.
 The fall vaccination program is for dogs and cats registered in Gwangju. However, vaccination may not be available for animals that are pregnant or show abnormal signs.
 Rabies vaccinations normally cost around 20,000 won, but during this period, pet owners will pay only 5,000 won.
 Gwangju Special City will provide enough vaccine for 3,830 animals to 89 designated animal hospitals in the Gwangju area. Vaccinations will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and may end early once supplies run out.
 Citizens wishing to have their pets vaccinated should bring an animal registration certificate or animal registration device (external device or identification tag) to a designated animal hospital. The list of designated animal hospitals can be found in the announcements on the Gwangju Special City website or by contacting the Gwangju Special City 120 Call Center.
 Bae Gwisuk, head of the Agricultural and Animal Policy Division, said, "We will continue working to protect the health of companion animals, ease citizens' concerns about rabies, and create an environment where people and animals can coexist safely."
