[Financial News] A story about a wife who handled the cooking, dishwashing and other chores at her in-laws' home for two straight days has sparked discussion after she got into an argument with her husband when she suggested stopping by her maternal grandmother's home on the way to visit her family.
She worked at the extended family's main home while her husband slept at his parents' home
On the 27th, a post titled "Who do you think was in the wrong during this holiday?" was uploaded to the online community Bobaedream.
The woman, identified only as A, said she had visited the extended family's main home with her husband for the Chuseok holiday. "We went to my in-laws' main family home for ancestral rites, but no one else had arrived. Since I got there first, I served the gamjatang I had prepared to my husband's extended family so we could eat together with my in-laws. Both my husband and mother-in-law liked it," she began.
A said she had to do more work than usual because one of the daughters-in-law was sick and could not attend the holiday gathering. "I spent the entire afternoon making Korean savory pancakes, then came to my husband's parents' home and rested for a while. They woke me up to prepare dinner, so I grilled pork belly," she said. "My husband did nothing and slept the entire time." She added, "I kept washing dishes on the day of the holiday as well." Despite this, she said, "I've been married for 18 years, so even when I was annoyed or things felt unfair, I just told myself that it was better not to make an issue of it and worked hard."
Husband blows up when his wife suggests visiting her maternal grandmother's home: "Why are you changing the schedule like a child?"
The conflict with her husband occurred while they were heading to her family home. A said, "After leaving my in-laws' home, I called my family and found out that my mother was on her way to her own mother's home, my maternal grandmother's house. So I told my husband, 'Then let's go there too. Since we're going, I'd like to see my grandmother as well.' He suddenly became furious and said, 'This wasn't part of the plan. Why are you changing things all of a sudden?' and 'What are we going to do if traffic gets bad because we're going without a plan?'"
A said, "I don't understand what the problem is. We were going to my family's home anyway, and I was only suggesting that we go to my grandmother's home instead." She added, "According to the navigation app, traffic wasn't heavy at all, and I brought it up because we could get to my grandmother's house in an hour."
She continued, "When I asked my husband, 'Even if we were going to my family's home anyway, weren't we prepared to deal with traffic?' he became angry and said, 'Why do you keep wanting to do things that weren't planned, like a child? If we're going to visit your mother's family, then we should visit my mother's family too to be fair.'" She added, "When I said, 'After I worked hard for two straight days, couldn't you do what I wanted even if it meant sitting in a little traffic?' he replied, 'What did you do at my family's home that was so special? If you're going to make a show of it, don't do it from now on.'"
She added, "For the record, my husband is absolutely not a planner." She then lamented, "Was it really so wrong for me to suddenly suggest visiting my mother's family?"
People who read the story responded, "During the holidays, traffic is heavy wherever you go. Isn't a husband supposed to go with his beloved family and wife wherever they want to go?" "You should show that you don't want to go only to a reasonable extent. He has become accustomed to her help, takes it for granted and is selfish." "Her husband really is on the other side, not on his wife's side." "He slept the entire time while his wife worked at his family's home. Is it really so difficult for him to go with her?"
