Ulsan Whales to Vie for KBO Futures League Title in Their Inaugural Season Today

【Financial News Ulsan=Reporter Choi Su-sang】 Ulsan Whales will face Sangmu Phoenix at 6:30 p.m. on the 28th at Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome, seeking the overall KBO Futures League championship in their inaugural year.
Ulsan Whales are a new club that held their founding ceremony on February 2 this year. After finishing atop the Southern League in their inaugural year, they defeated the Hanwha Eagles 2-0 in the semifinal of the 2026 Mediheal KBO Futures League Championship held at Ulsan Munsu Baseball Stadium on the 22nd. They are now aiming to win the title in their first season.
Ulsan Whales opened the season with three straight losses to Lotte. After earning their first win since the club's founding on March 25, however, they quickly rebounded with a seven-game winning streak. They became the first team in the Southern League to reach 50 wins and remained in first place for 84 days. Although they briefly slipped to second place late in the season, they overcame the setback and ultimately finished atop the Southern League.
The players have been training at Ulsan Munsu Baseball Stadium since the 24th, foregoing the Chuseok holiday and intensifying their preparations to win the championship final.
The club will send an away cheering squad to the final. Its mascot, Orca, will also travel to Gocheok and join the fans. Ulsan Whales will use the first-base dugout as the visiting team and plans to stage passionate cheers with fans in front of the first-base cheering platform. The first 300 fans will also receive Ulsan Whales cheering scarves in front of the first-base cheering platform.
Ulsan Whales General Manager Kim Dong-jin said, "We want to create an atmosphere at Gocheok where the players and fans can become one, so that we can repay the support of Ulsan citizens and fans who have been with us throughout our inaugural season."
