"Trump to Have Private Dinner with Anthropic CEO at White House"—A Sign of Thawing Amid Dispute Over 'Supply Chain Risk' Designation

[Financial News] Expectations are growing that relations between the U.S. government and Anthropic will improve after U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to meet one-on-one with Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic.
President Donald Trump invited Amodei to a private dinner at the White House on the 27th local time, Axios reported, citing multiple sources.
The sources said Trump personally invited Amodei to the dinner after he was unable to attend the state dinner held for Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 24th because of a scheduling conflict.
The dinner is also scheduled ahead of a meeting that President Trump and Mike Johnson, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, are due to hold with the CEOs of major AI companies at the White House on the 29th.
As the first one-on-one meeting between the two, the dinner is being interpreted as a sign that relations between the U.S. government and Anthropic, which had been tense, are beginning to thaw.
Previously, the United States Department of Defense (DoD) designated Anthropic as a 'supply-chain-risk' company, a classification generally applied to companies from hostile nations. The U.S. Department of Commerce also at one point imposed export-control guidelines on Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5, temporarily suspending the services.
More recently, President Trump sharply criticized calls to slow the pace of AI development advocated by Amodei, calling them 'a scam' and a proposal that would benefit only China.
In particular, several months ago, when Anthropic sought a one-on-one meeting with President Trump, the White House reportedly rejected the request on the grounds that 'Dario was too much of a weirdo for President Trump to deal with.'
Axios assessed that, given the way this administration operates and its strong sensitivity to President Trump's personal preferences and relationships, a private meeting with Trump is regarded by companies as an invaluable opportunity.
A White House official said of the meeting, "As President Trump has made clear, the United States will lead the world in Superintelligence (SI) while protecting American consumers. We will lead innovation, strengthen American competitiveness, and ensure that this transformative technology is put to proper use for the American people."
