U.S. Ambassador Michelle Park Steel Makes Songpyeon, Says "It Brings Back Childhood Memories," and Sends Chuseok Greetings with Her Husband

[Financial News] Michelle Park Steel, the United States Ambassador to South Korea, shared a video of herself making songpyeon with her husband for Chuseok and spoke about her longstanding ties to Korea. This year's Chuseok is the first Korean holiday she has celebrated since taking up her post.
On the 23rd, Michelle Park Steel posted a Chuseok greeting on X, formerly Twitter, featuring her making songpyeon with her husband, lawyer Shawn Steel. In the video, she said in Korean, "I really loved making songpyeon with my family when I was young."
She also said, "As I celebrate Chuseok here for the first time since leaving Korea at age 14, precious memories from my childhood come flooding back. Today, I would like to share with you one special memory that has stayed in my heart for a long time." She added, "I hope you have a warm and abundant Chuseok with your beloved family."
Since taking up her post in late July, Michelle Park Steel has consistently shared glimpses of her daily life and personal experiences as a Korean American, including a visit to Namdaemun Market to eat hotteok and a trip to Youngnak Presbyterian Church, which her parents attended. On the 21st, she also made the unusual move of inviting leading South Korean politicians from both the ruling and opposition parties, as well as a vice minister of Foreign Affairs and others, to the Jeong-dong residence where the U.S. ambassador is staying.
