South Korea's women's hockey team advances to semifinals as Group A runner-up after beating Malaysia, to face India for a spot in the final [Nagoya Asian Games]

[Financial News] South Korea's women's hockey team advanced to the Asian Games semifinals with a victory in its final group-stage match.
The team, coached by Kim Yong-su, defeated Malaysia 2-1 in the fifth and final Group A match of the women's hockey tournament at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya on the 27th at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
With a group-stage record of four wins and one loss and 12 points, South Korea secured a spot in the semifinal tournament by finishing second in Group A behind China, which went 5-0 with 15 points. Having earned one of the four semifinal berths awarded to the top two teams in each group, South Korea will continue its pursuit of a 12th consecutive Asian Games medal. Its goal is to win gold for the first time in 12 years since the 2014 Incheon Games.
South Korea pressed Malaysia from the opening minutes. The team took the lead just before the end of the first quarter, when Park Seung-ae (KT) calmly converted a penalty corner. Just before the second quarter ended, An Su-jin (Pyeongtaek City Hall) added a field goal to extend the lead to 2-0.
South Korea controlled the game steadily but conceded once just before the end of the fourth quarter. The team held firm in the remaining minutes to preserve the one-goal victory.
South Korea, now through to the semifinals, will face Group B winner India at 7 p.m. on the 30th at the same venue for a place in the final. India, which went 5-0 in Group B, scored 66 goals and conceded only three, demonstrating a formidable attack that makes it one of the tournament's leading title contenders. In the other semifinal, Group A winner China will battle the Group B runner-up, either Japan or Thailand, for a place in the final.
