[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 27th, "There are also forces that deliberately provoke low-grade fights," and urged people to respond to lies, verbal abuse, and slander with dignified, reasonable criticism. He said responding in kind could undermine their credibility, adding, "We should take the high road."
President Lee posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) that day titled "Participation and Small Acts Create a World of Reform," stating, "It may feel satisfying to repay them in kind, but it has no persuasive power, and we will only be lumped together and told that we are 'just the same.'"
He continued, "Even those around us then become fodder for criticism, with people saying they are no different," and pointed out, "Once it degenerates into a dirty fight, it makes no difference who started it."
President Lee emphasized that people should respond in a way that makes the other side feel ashamed of itself and allows the public watching to judge. He wrote, "Even if they act crudely, we should take the high road," adding, "They fight for private interests, but we are warriors of light who fight for the country's better future and a better life for its people."
Criticizing the way information is delivered through the media and YouTube, he also called for direct public participation. President Lee said, "Let us not be disappointed just because the media do not report it or a YouTube channel we trusted does not tell us about it," adding, "Creating a better world is something we ourselves must take responsibility for, and it is also something we are fully capable of doing."
He cited comments, messages, phone calls, and social media posts as specific ways to take action. Through them, he argued, people should share "the hidden truths and facts that the media ignore and YouTubers manipulate." He emphasized, "Even clicking 'like' once on a comment on someone else's post or article is an essential and important act needed at that moment to create the world we want."
He also called for critical thinking in the way people receive information. He said, "We must not be lazy about obtaining information ourselves and thinking critically," so that our good intentions are not used to help someone make money or exploited to create a world contrary to our intentions.
President Lee said, "Reform also needs momentum, and that momentum comes from the people." He added that lasting reform is possible only when the drive for reform is not distorted or exploited for private gain, but is pursued with public support.
He also argued, "It is difficult to expect people who use reform as a means of pursuing private interests, or groups that will lose their vested interests through reform, to contribute to reform or support and assist those leading it."
President Lee said, "I will devote myself wholeheartedly to turning that dream into reality by making the fullest use of the authority entrusted to me," while adding, "I cannot do it alone." He continued, "The attention and encouragement of the people, especially the participation and action of my friends, are essential," and said, "I believe you will join me."
