Joo Jin-woo: "Distortion of the Yuk Young-soo Shooting" ... Calls for Punishment of Those Involved in Film 'The Assassin(s)'

[Financial News] Joo Jin-woo, a People Power Party lawmaker, called for those involved in the film 'The Assassin(s)' to be punished, claiming that it distorted the historical facts surrounding the 1974 shooting of Yuk Young-soo. The film was produced to trace the alleged mastermind and unanswered questions surrounding the incident.
On Facebook on the 27th, Joo criticized the film, writing, "If a movie came out claiming that Kwon Yang-sook orchestrated the death of former President Roh Moo-hyun, would that also be considered freedom of expression?"
Joo claimed that the film distorted who was behind the incident. He said, "The film 'The Assassin(s)' distorted the incident by portraying former President Park Chung Hee, rather than North Korea, as being behind the assassination of Yuk Young-soo. It was an outrageous and unforgivable act."
He continued, "This was not cinematic imagination but an immoral crime that tears at the hearts of the bereaved family," adding, "It also concealed the historical truth that the incident was a terrorist attack by North Korea."
Joo also cited remarks previously made by North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. He said, "Kim Jong Il personally apologized for the incident in which Yuk Young-soo was killed during an attempt to assassinate President Park Chung Hee," and claimed, "He confessed that North Korea was responsible." The remarks were reported to have been made during former President Park Geun-hye's visit to North Korea in 2002.
He also claimed that the film's content amounted to defamation of the deceased.
Joo stated, "Have we forgotten the sight of President Park Chung Hee and his children weeping bitterly over Yuk Young-soo's death? It clearly constitutes defamation of the deceased," adding, "It cannot be justified under the pretext of freedom of expression, so those responsible must be punished severely."
