Hoengseong Livelihood Recovery Support Funds Cut by ₩9.3 Billion; County Governor Jang Sin-sang Promises Alternative Measures

[Financial News Hoengseong = Kim Gi-seop, reporter] The more than ₩9 billion in livelihood recovery support funds that had been slated for all residents were cut during the county council’s budget review, prompting Hoengseong County Governor Jang Sin-sang to say he would prepare alternative support measures.
According to Hoengseong County on the 27th, Governor Jang issued a statement that day regarding the ₩9.338 billion cut from the budget for livelihood recovery support funds for all county residents during the 337th regular session of the Hoengseong County Council, held from the 10th to the 22nd. Jang said he respected and accepted the results of the review by the county council, the representative body of residents, but did not hide his disappointment.
The county had allocated the support funds to help stabilize the livelihoods of all residents, including young people, children, older adults, farmers and livestock producers, and small business owners, while easing household financial burdens. The funds were expected to circulate throughout local communities, revive spending at neighborhood businesses, and energize the regional economy. However, after the budget was rejected, the payments will not be made.
Jang apologized, saying he felt a heavy responsibility as county governor for failing to meet residents’ expectations. He also expressed his intention to strengthen communication and cooperation with the county council and work together to find ways to promote regional development and overcome the crisis.
“Although more than ₩9.3 billion in support funds could not reach residents’ hands, there is still time to revive people’s livelihoods,” Jang said. “I will not use this cut as an excuse to stop. I will put our heads together with the county council to devise new measures that will provide real help to residents and carry them out to the end.”
