Accidents occur across Jeju as Chuseok holiday draws to a close; tourist in his 50s dies after falling at Cheonjiyeonpokpo Falls

[Financial News Jeju = Reporter Jeong Yong-bok] A series of incidents and accidents occurred in Jeju as the Chuseok holiday drew to a close, including the death of a tourist who fell into the water while taking photos at Cheonjiyeonpokpo Falls, one of the province's major public tourist attractions. On the roads, a Chinese woman in her 20s was struck by a one-ton truck and suffered impaired consciousness, while a driver in his 30s was seriously injured in a vehicle collision.
According to the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters and others on the 27th, a report was received at around 8:32 p.m. the previous day that a male tourist in his 50s, identified as A, had fallen about 2 meters into the water while taking photos at Cheonjiyeonpokpo Falls in Seogwipo City.
A rescue worker who arrived at the scene entered the water and rescued A. A was taken to a hospital while receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a state of cardiac arrest, but died.
The accident occurred during Cheonjiyeonpokpo Falls' normal visiting hours. Managed by Seogwipo City, the falls are open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with admission closing at 9:20 p.m.
Police and fire authorities believe that A fell while taking photos and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
At around 10:30 a.m. the same day, a Chinese woman in her 20s, identified as B, was struck by a one-ton truck at a three-way intersection in Sangye-dong, Seogwipo City.
B suffered impaired consciousness and multiple injuries across her body and was urgently taken to a hospital. Ambulance crews administered first aid at the scene, including maintaining her airway and providing oxygen, before transporting her to the hospital.
Police are investigating whether B was crossing a crosswalk, the vehicle signals, and the truck's driving conditions at the time of the accident. It has not been confirmed whether B was a tourist or a resident of Jeju Province.
A serious traffic accident also occurred on the 25th, Chuseok Day.
At around 5:35 p.m., a compact car and a sport utility vehicle collided near Seogwang 2 Intersection in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo City. The man in his 30s who was driving the compact car suffered serious injuries, including loss of consciousness, and was taken to a hospital.
Workplace accidents also continued, including incidents in which body parts were severed or hands became caught in machinery.
At around 3:32 p.m. on the 25th, a man in his 50s had his right ring finger severed after his hand was struck by a rock while he was moving stones in Gujwa-eup. That same day, a woman in her 20s injured her right thumb and index finger while using a cutting machine at a restaurant in Gujwa-eup.
Earlier, on the 24th, a man in his 50s fell about 2 meters while working on a ladder at a furniture workshop in Odeung-dong, Jeju City. At a meat-products sales shop in Nohyeong-dong, a worker in his 50s had a hand caught in a food-processing machine and was taken to a hospital.
There were also accidents during tourism and outdoor activities.
At around 2:55 p.m. on the 26th, a woman in her 40s was bitten and injured by a dog while walking along the Jeju Olle Trail in Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju Province, and was taken to a hospital. On the morning of the 25th, a woman in her 40s was struck by a moving vehicle on a road near Jueodong Port in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo City, and was taken to a hospital.
