President Lee Jae Myung and Military Leadership Reported to Police Over Suspected Landmine Explosion in DMZ

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung and military commanders have been reported to police in connection with a suspected landmine explosion that recently occurred in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) along the western front.
The Committee for the Protection of Ordinary People's Livelihood said on the 27th that it had filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency the previous day, on the 26th, against nine people, including President Lee Jae Myung, Wi Sung-lac, director of the Office of National Security (ONS), former Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-back, and current Minister of National Defense Kang Shin-chul. The complaint alleges abuse of authority, dereliction of duty, aiding the enemy and co-perpetration of those offenses.
In its complaint, the committee alleged that the South Korean military failed to respond actively to the emergence of unusual terrain and suspicions that landmines had been planted following North Korean soldiers' incursion across the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) in June.
It further alleged, "President Lee, as commander in chief of the South Korean military, engaged in inappropriate conduct that constituted abuse of authority, dereliction of duty and aiding the enemy by allowing the situation to develop in which South Korean troops had no choice but to be injured in the explosion that occurred in the DMZ on the 21st."
The complaint stated that Wi, former Minister Ahn and Minister Kang had tacitly accepted this, making them co-principals in aiding the enemy, and that they were suspected of abuse of authority and other offenses.
The committee also criticized the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff (ROK JCS), saying, "Although the media repeatedly raised questions about the suspected border crossing and landmine emplacement, the ROK JCS deceived the public and endangered national security by stubbornly maintaining an irresponsible and absurd position."
Earlier, at around 10:50 a.m. on the 21st, two suspected landmine explosions occurred while the military was conducting an operation to clear a search route in an area near the MDL in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, under the jurisdiction of the Army's 25th Division. Two people, including the search battalion commander, suffered serious injuries, while one sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the committee has filed dozens of complaints every year, including a past complaint against Lee Jae Myung, then a presidential candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea and a former Gyeonggi governor, over allegations of preferential treatment in the Daejang-dong development project.
