Tragedies across the country during the Chuseok holiday... Falls, knife attacks and more follow one after another

[Financial News]   On the final day of the Chuseok holiday, a couple and their teenage child were found dead in an apartment in Okcheon, North Chungcheong Province, prompting police to launch an investigation. During the holiday period, a tourist in Jeju fell to his death while taking photos at Cheonjiyeonpokpo Falls, while in Ansan-si, a woman in her 50s allegedly killed her mother in her 70s with a knife. A series of incidents and accidents continued across the country.
According to police and other sources on the 27th, a man in his 50s identified as A, his wife in her 50s, and their teenage child were found dead in an apartment in Okcheon County, North Chungcheong Province, at around 9 a.m. A was found in the flower bed outside the apartment, while his wife and child were found collapsed and bleeding inside the home.
Police responded to a report that "a person is lying in the apartment flower bed" and found A. After confirming his identity, officers went to his home and found his wife and child dead inside about 10 minutes later. No signs of an outside intrusion were found.
In Jeju, a tourist in his 50s died in an accident while taking photos at a popular attraction during the Chuseok holiday. At around 8:30 p.m. the previous day, tourist A fell into the water about 2 meters below while taking photos at Cheonjiyeonpokpo Falls in Seogwipo City.
Firefighters responding to the report conducted an underwater search and found A, but he was already in cardiac arrest. Rescuers performed CPR and took him to a hospital, but he eventually died. Cheonjiyeonpokpo Falls is one of Jeju's representative tourist attractions and is visited even at night.
In Ansan-si, a woman in her 50s allegedly killed her mother in her 70s with a knife during the Chuseok holiday. Ansan Sangnok Police Station arrested the woman, identified as A, at the scene on suspicion of killing her mother with a knife at a multi-family house in Ansan-si at around 1 a.m. on the 26th.
After the incident, A told an acquaintance that she had stabbed her mother, and the acquaintance reported it to police. The victim was taken to a hospital while receiving CPR but died. A lived with her mother and was found to have drunk one bottle of soju before the incident.
A reportedly told police that she had been drinking and was asleep when she got into an argument with her mother, who had returned home, over her mother's usual behavior and other matters, and that she had attacked her with a knife impulsively.
In Namyangju-si, a woman in her 70s staying at a villa for the Chuseok holiday was stabbed by her driver. Police received a report at around 11 a.m. on the 26th that woman A in her 70s had been stabbed and was lying collapsed at a villa in Namyangju-si.
A was taken to a hospital for treatment, while police arrested a man in his 50s, identified as B, at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. A's husband, who was on the second floor of the villa, reportedly heard her screams, came downstairs, found his wife collapsed, and reported the incident. The couple had been staying at the villa for the Chuseok holiday, and B was identified as their driver.
In Jeongseon County, a man in his 60s allegedly attacked an acquaintance with a knife while intoxicated. Jeongseon Police Station sought an arrest warrant for A on suspicion of attempted murder.
A is suspected of attacking acquaintance B, also in his 60s, with a knife near a road in Jeongseon County at 9:15 p.m. on the 24th, the first day of the holiday. B suffered serious injuries to his side and thigh and was taken to a hospital, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening. A, who was arrested at the scene, reportedly told police that he did not remember what had happened.
In Jeju, a series of safety accidents also occurred amid strong winds and heavy rain. On the 26th, the fire authorities received 13 reports of damage related to the weather, including fallen utility poles and trees, in Jeju, where heavy rain and strong wind advisories had been issued. A person in his 20s was also injured in a road accident caused by the wet conditions. A heavy rain warning was issued for the mountainous and mid-mountain areas of Jeju, while a strong wind advisory was issued across the island.
Vehicle fires and traffic accidents also continued from the first day of the holiday. At around 12:37 p.m. on the 24th, an SUV traveling on National Route 46 in Deokduwon-ri, Seomyeon, Chuncheon, caught fire and was completely destroyed. No one was injured, but the fire authorities estimated the property damage at 30 million won.
At around 2:53 p.m. the same day, a fire broke out at a home in Gapcheon-myeon, Hoengseong County, burning about 20 square meters of the interior and household belongings. At 9:49 a.m., a passenger car and an SUV collided in Dongmyeong-dong, Sokcho City, injuring a driver in his 50s. About 10 minutes earlier, an SUV had crashed into a retaining wall in Girin-myeon, Inje County, sending a person in his 80s to a hospital.
At Incheon International Airport, a fire also broke out aboard an aircraft carrying about 220 overseas travelers. At around 9 p.m. on the 24th, a bag placed under a passenger's seat caught fire inside Air Seoul flight RS511, which was preparing to depart Incheon International Airport for Da Nang, Vietnam. The bag contained a power bank stored in a pouch, and flight attendants extinguished the fire.
The aircraft was carrying 221 passengers and seven crew members at the time. Some passengers complained of breathing problems, but no one sustained injuries serious enough to require hospitalization. Air Seoul had all the passengers disembark and replaced the aircraft. Except for two passengers who gave up their seats, the remaining 219 departed on another aircraft about 2 hours and 50 minutes later.
A fire broke out at an energy facility in Seokmun-myeon, Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do, on the morning of the 27th, prompting the fire authorities to issue a Level 1 response. The fire started at around 8:55 a.m., and the authorities activated the response level about 15 minutes after receiving the report before deploying personnel to extinguish the blaze. No casualties were reported.
Shortly after the fire broke out, Dangjin City sent an emergency alert to nearby residents, instructing them to evacuate to a safe location and avoid approaching the site. At around 10:30 a.m., the city sent an additional alert to visitors at nearby golf courses, urging them to move immediately to a safe place and beware of inhaling smoke.
