"Two heads on one body?" Another turtle with the rare condition of bicephaly discovered

[Financial News] A two-headed baby turtle has been discovered in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, drawing public attention.
According to People and several other foreign media outlets on the 21st local time, a two-headed baby turtle was found at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. The turtle was later transferred to the Cape Wildlife Center in Massachusetts. It is reportedly the first turtle with bicephaly to be found in the area since 2021.
The center shared photos of the baby turtle on social media. Weighing just 5.2 grams, the turtle has two heads attached to a single body. This is a rare developmental abnormality known as bicephaly, and the center said, "We plan to closely observe the small turtle to learn how its two heads and body move together."
The center added, "It is an extremely rare case, with only two bicephalic turtles found over the past five years," and explained, "We are carefully monitoring its feeding, growth and behavior." The bicephalic turtle discovered in 2021 reportedly had two heads and six legs.
At the time, the center said of such specimens, "They are similar to cases in humans," adding, "These rare animals are unlikely to survive for a long time, but this one showed no health problems." Bicephaly occurs when twins fail to completely separate during development.
Meanwhile, the turtle found this time belongs to a species native to the eastern and southern coasts of the United States. Massachusetts has designated the species as threatened and protects it.
