[Financial News] The gaming monitor market is seeing an increase in products with varied screen sizes and performance levels tailored to different uses. As demand becomes more segmented, LG Display is expanding its OLED panel lineup, from 24.5-inch high-refresh-rate products to large-screen models.
According to market research firm Omdia on the 27th, 27-inch products are expected to account for 51.6% of gaming monitor market revenue this year. That represents a 19.2-percentage-point increase from 32.4% in 2022, achieved over four years.
Demand in the professional esports market is different. First-person shooter (FPS) games require players to quickly track movement across the entire screen, creating a preference for screens in the 24-inch range and ultra-high refresh rates. Refresh rate refers to how many frames a screen can display in one second.
As demand for gaming monitors diversifies, efforts to broaden product lineups accordingly are also accelerating. LG Display recently announced that it would begin mass-producing OLED monitor panels measuring 24.5 inches and supporting refresh rates of up to 720Hz. An ASUS gaming monitor equipped with the panel was selected as the official monitor for 'PGL Major Singapore 2026.'
For its 27-inch products, LG Display has adopted an approach that allows users to change the resolution and refresh rate depending on the game. Applying Dynamic Frequency and Resolution (DFR) technology, the company enables users to select a refresh rate of up to 720Hz when rapid screen transitions are needed, or QHD resolution and a 540Hz refresh rate when image quality is a priority. DFR allows users to choose high-refresh-rate or high-resolution modes based on the content to maximize image quality.
The lineup targeting users who prefer larger screens is also expanding. LG Display is applying DFR technology to 31.5-inch products while supplying 21:9 ultrawide panels in 34-, 39-, and 45-inch sizes. It recently added a 39-inch product with 5K2K resolution.
The 45-inch product uses bendable OLED technology, allowing the screen to be used flat or curved to a radius of up to 800R. The company explained that in racing and simulation games, where a wide field of view is important, screen size and shape can be just as important as refresh rate when choosing a product.
As gaming demand becomes more segmented, panel makers are also expected to continue broadening their product lineups. An industry source said, "As the gaming monitor market grows, it is becoming difficult to meet demand with a single screen size or set of specifications as in the past. The performance priorities are increasingly diverging by genre: refresh rate and response time for FPS games, resolution and image quality for AAA games, and screen size and viewing angle for racing and simulation games."
