[Breaking News] President Lee Jae Myung wraps up state visit to Mexico, heads home via Anchorage

【Financial News, Mexico City, Mexico—Reporter Choi Jong-geun】President Lee Jae Myung departed Felipe Ángeles International Airport in Mexico City for South Korea on the 26th local time after completing his visits to the United States and Mexico.
Lee left for New York in the United States on the 21st to attend the United Nations General Assembly. He then traveled to Mexico City, where he completed his state visit, including a summit, and is scheduled to arrive in South Korea on the 27th via Anchorage.
During his state visit, Lee held a summit with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. It was the first state visit to Mexico by a South Korean president in 16 years.
At the summit, the two countries agreed on the need to conclude a trade agreement and decided to expand cooperation in the defense industry in connection with Mexico’s military modernization. Lee also proposed locally producing South Korean defense technologies in Mexico and jointly entering third-country markets. The two sides further agreed to work together to establish stable supply chains for key resources, including crude oil and critical minerals.
The visit is seen as having further elevated the countries’ strategic partnership, centered on trade and defense, with the conclusion of seven years of negotiations to revise their investment protection agreement and the signing of a defense cooperation memorandum of understanding.
