Tragedy During Chuseok Holiday... Daughter in Her 50s Kills Mother in Her 70s, Calls Acquaintance After Crime

[Financial News] A daughter in her 50s was arrested by police after allegedly wielding a weapon at her mother in her 70s during the Chuseok holiday, killing her.
Ansan Sangnok Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said on the 26th that it had arrested and was investigating a woman in her 50s, identified as Ms. A, on suspicion of parricide.
Ms. A is suspected of wielding a weapon at Ms. B, her mother in her 70s, at around 1 a.m. that day in a multi-family residence in Sangnok District, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi Province, where they lived together.
Ms. B, who had been stabbed, was urgently taken to a nearby hospital by emergency responders who arrived at the scene, but eventually died.
Immediately after the crime, Ms. A contacted an acquaintance and confessed to what she had done. Police responding to the acquaintance's report arrested her at the scene as a suspect caught in the act.
Police initially arrested Ms. A on suspicion of attempted parricide, but changed the charge to parricide after Ms. B, who had been taken to a hospital, died.
Ms. A reportedly told police during questioning, "I drank one bottle of soju before committing the crime."
Police plan to seek an arrest warrant after conducting an intensive investigation into Ms. A's specific motive and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
