Trump Calls Meeting With Xi "Very Productive," Says "Tremendous Things Will Happen"

[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump praised his summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying, "The meeting with President Xi was very productive for both the United States and China." However, most U.S. media outlets assessed that the meeting merely provided a flashy spectacle and fell short of making clear progress on substantive points of contention, instead amounting to little more than an effort to manage relations between the two countries.
Trump made the remarks on the 25th (local time) through the social media platform Truth Social, saying, "Tremendous things will happen."
Xi had visited the United States on the 23rd for a state visit, his first in 11 years. On the 24th, he attended an official welcoming ceremony, a summit meeting and a state dinner with Trump at the White House. He also visited the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C., following a tea meeting at the White House.
The two leaders' successive meetings over three days concluded as Xi completed his state visit to the United States and departed for home.
Trump again said the meeting had gone well, without making an official announcement about any specific outcomes.
During public remarks at a tea meeting at the White House, he said, "We made tremendous progress, tremendous progress that was very positive for both countries." At the National Archives and Records Administration, he also told reporters, "It was a really great meeting. Great for the farmers and great for everybody."
Regarding artificial intelligence (AI), Trump also wrote on Truth Social, "Like almost everybody else, he [Xi Jinping] seemed to like calling the poorly and inaccurately named 'artificial intelligence' something much more accurate and important: 'Super Intelligence' (SI)," adding, "'Super' is right. Everybody agreed last night."
The remarks are viewed as an extension of Trump's earlier proposal to call it "Super Intelligence" (SI), after he said in a speech at the United Nations that he would not accept efforts to establish a global international control system for AI. Trump did not mention how prominently AI-related discussions figured in his meeting with Xi.
Meanwhile, shortly after Xi left the United States, Trump wrote on Truth Social, "This meeting was one that brought friendship, strength, and success to both China and the United States." He added, "We will meet again in China in November, and then again at the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Miami, Florida, in December."
At a tea reception held at the White House earlier that day, Xi said, "Looking at the remainder of this year, there are two more opportunities for us to meet." He continued, "The first is the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in China, and the second is the G20 summit in the United States." He also invited Trump, saying, "I sincerely welcome the president and the first lady to visit China." Trump replied, "We will do that, and we will have a lot to talk about."
Since Trump began his second term, the two leaders have held talks three times: in Busan last October, in Beijing this May, and now at the White House.
