Trump: "Tremendous Progress" in U.S.-China Ties; Xi: "Two More Meetings This Year" ... Wraps Up U.S. Visit (Comprehensive)

[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping successfully wrapped up a two-night, three-day state-visit schedule in the United States, jointly declaring, "We have made tremendous progress in relations between the two countries." Xi formally invited Trump to China for a multilateral summit later this year, and Trump's immediate acceptance means the two leaders are expected to meet face-to-face four times this year alone.
According to foreign media outlets, including The New York Times (NYT), on the 25th the two leaders expressed high satisfaction with the outcome of their talks during a tea gathering with their spouses in the White House's Red Room.
Trump said, "It was a real pleasure to welcome such remarkable people on their visit," adding, "We made tremendous progress, and it was a very positive and productive time for both countries." Although he did not disclose specific details of the agreements, he suggested that progress had been made on matters including expanded agricultural exports to China, saying, "Our American farmers will also be very happy."
Xi also expressed deep gratitude for the United States' hospitality and laid out a vision for future China-U.S. relations. He emphasized, "The president and I are like two people charting the course of the great ship that is China-U.S. relations," adding, "We agreed to add new substantive content to the 'constructive relationship' agreed upon at our meeting in Beijing last May. It will be a strategically stable relationship based on respect, fairness and reciprocity."

Xi notably proposed two additional meetings during the remainder of this year and formally invited Trump and Melania Trump. Xi said, "We have two more opportunities to meet this year," referring to the APEC summit scheduled to take place in mid-November in Shenzhen, China, and the Group of Twenty (G20) summit scheduled for mid-December in Miami, State of Florida.
Trump immediately responded, "Thank you very much. We will do that, and we will have many conversations." If the plans proceed as scheduled, the two leaders will hold four summits in total this year, following their meeting in Beijing last May and their meeting in Washington, D.C., this September.

Meanwhile, foreign media outlets have described the two-night, three-day summit as an 'uneven playing field' that favored Xi from the outset.
Xi, who controls 90% of the global rare-earth supply chain, pressured the United States with a powerful resource-weaponization card. By contrast, Trump was assessed as lacking a meaningful lever because of falling approval ratings amid soaring prices, the prolonged conflict involving Iran, and pressure from the midterm elections.
In fact, unlike his previous hawkish remarks about China, Trump focused on highlighting his 'personal friendship' with Xi, offering extraordinary red-carpet treatment and lavish banquets from the airport welcome throughout the three-day visit. Xi, meanwhile, maintained an uncompromising stance on key security issues, including Taiwan and artificial intelligence (AI), leading to assessments that he had come out on top.
After the tea gathering, the two leaders toured the National Archives and Records Administration, where the originals of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution are preserved, bringing their official two-night, three-day schedule to a close.
