Chuseok Homecoming Route from Seoul to Busan Takes 6 Hours 10 Minutes; Return Route Takes 7 Hours

[Financial News] Traffic congestion continued on expressways across the country on the afternoon of the 25th, Chuseok, as vehicles headed home for the holiday or returned to the capital. Traffic on homecoming routes had improved compared with the morning, but return routes remained congested.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, the estimated travel time from Seoul to Busan, based on departure from the toll plaza at 4 p.m. that day, was 6 hours 10 minutes. The trip was expected to take 5 hours 50 minutes to Ulsan, 5 hours 20 minutes to Mokpo, 5 hours 10 minutes to Daegu, 5 hours to Gwangju, 3 hours 30 minutes to Gangneung, and 3 hours 10 minutes to Daejeon.
Conversely, travel times from each city to Seoul were expected to be 7 hours from Busan, 6 hours 40 minutes from Ulsan and Mokpo, 6 hours 10 minutes from Gwangju, 6 hours from Daegu, 4 hours 20 minutes from Gangneung, and 4 hours 10 minutes from Daejeon.
The Korea Expressway Corporation forecast that congestion on homecoming routes would ease around 7–8 p.m. that day. Traffic on return routes was expected to be heaviest around 3–5 p.m. before clearing around 2–3 a.m. on the 26th.
Nationwide expressway traffic was forecast at approximately 6.84 million vehicles. The Korea Expressway Corporation expected 470,000 vehicles to travel from the Seoul metropolitan area to other regions and 460,000 vehicles to travel from other regions to the Seoul metropolitan area.
