Cheong Wa Dae: "Mine Accident Investigated Jointly with UNC... No Hidden Plot or Cover-Up Possible"

 [Financial News, Mexico City (Mexico) — Reporter Choi Jong-geun]Cheong Wa Dae said it is conducting a joint investigation with the United Nations Command (UNC) into the apparent mine-related accident that recently occurred in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), making it impossible for there to be a hidden plot or a cover-up. It also dismissed as groundless opposition-led allegations that the investigation had been delayed.
A senior Cheong Wa Dae official told reporters at the Mexico City Press Center on the 24th local time, "The investigation is being conducted objectively, swiftly and thoroughly. There is absolutely no basis for any allegation or suspicion arising from the investigation."
Explaining why the investigation was taking time, the senior Cheong Wa Dae official said, "In this case, we are dealing with an area where a new route is being pioneered, making it far more dangerous. We are approaching it cautiously, and both our side and the UNC are conducting the investigation together."
The official stressed, "There cannot possibly be any hidden plot, anything being concealed or any cover-up, even in the slightest," adding, "Such claims have no basis."
The government has kept all possibilities open regarding the type of mine and who planted it. "I have not reached a conclusion either," the official said. "I think we need to consider all possibilities, and for now, it would be best to wait for the government's announcement."
