Cho Kuk: "Lee Must Resolve the Re-Recommendation of a Supreme Court Justice"... Calls for Abolition of the National Court Administration

[Financial News] Cho Kuk, head of the Innovation Policy Research Institute of the Rebuilding Korea Party, argued that President Lee Jae Myung should resolve the issue after returning to Korea, in connection with Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae's refusal to re-recommend a candidate for Supreme Court justice.
In a Facebook post on the 25th, Cho Kuk argued, "The Chief Justice's recommendation of a Supreme Court justice is a consultative right to participate, not veto power over the president's authority to appoint," adding, "Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae's unilateral recommendation seriously undermines the president's appointment authority."
Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae had earlier expressed his refusal on the 22nd to comply with Cheong Wa Dae's request to re-recommend a candidate for Supreme Court justice, saying there were no specific constitutional grounds or reasons for the request.
Cho Kuk stated, "The starting point of all these problems is that the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae does not recognize President Lee Jae Myung," adding, "The independence of the courts and trials must be respected, but the Supreme Court's infringement on the president's authority must not be tolerated."
He went on to argue that, since Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae had rejected the request for a re-recommendation, one Supreme Court justice seat should remain vacant until a successor to the chief justice is appointed, after which the replacement should be appointed in consultation with the new chief justice.
Addressing the Democratic Party of Korea, he urged it to take decisive action, saying, "Will Cho Hee-dae step down just because banners calling for his resignation are put up?" He added, "I hope the DPK will make the decision to abolish the National Court Administration, an initiative the Rebuilding Korea Party has pursued as party policy and submitted as a bill."
