South Korea and 79 Other Countries Urge Reopening of Strait of Hormuz at the United Nations (UN), Condemn Iran and Houthi Rebels

[Financial News] South Korea and 79 other countries issued a joint statement calling for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. They also condemned armed provocations by Iran and Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels, as well as disruptions to international trade.
On the 24th (local time), Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani held a press conference at United Nations Headquarters in New York and read out the joint statement. South Korea, Gulf and Arab states, and major Western countries were among the signatories.
In the statement, the participating countries said, "Iran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to threaten international security and the rights and freedom of navigation."
They also strongly condemned the Houthi rebels' decision to resume the conflict in Yemen, their continued strikes against Saudi Arabia, and their reckless attacks in the Red Sea.
The participating countries emphasized, "We reiterate our call for the urgent and complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz." They added that the safe and unhindered passage of vessels must be guaranteed under international law as set out in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
They demanded that no tolls, conditions, legal fees or other charges be imposed and that further disruption to global trade be avoided. They also called for the rights and principles of navigation to be fully restored without delay.
