Department Dedicated to Withdrawing the Saenggok Incinerator Construction Project to Launch Next Month

[Financial News] Gangseo-gu, Busan, is launching a dedicated department to block Busan Metropolitan City's Saenggok Incinerator construction project.
The district announced on the 25th that it had recently held an executive meeting chaired by District Mayor Park Sang-jun and attended by the deputy district mayor, bureau chiefs and heads of relevant departments, where it finalized a five-pronged response strategy to block the incinerator's construction. As part of the strategy, the district will launch a task force next month consisting of one unit and five teams—the general coordination team, resident communications team, operations team, construction affairs team and urban planning team. The task force will be headed by the deputy district mayor, with the chief of the Culture and Environment Bureau serving as deputy head.
The task force will be responsible for securing the withdrawal of the Saenggok Incinerator construction project and addressing the closure of the Myeongji Incineration Plant of Busan Environmental Corporation. It will serve as the command center for leading negotiations with the city and coordinating communication with residents. The task force will also develop comprehensive measures to restore Gangseo-gu's image, which was damaged during the city's efforts to advance the Saenggok Incinerator project, and to correct unnecessary misunderstandings and distorted information.
The district is also calling for a residents' briefing session attended by the Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City. A briefing session was held once before, but it broke down due in part to the mayor's absence. The district will also hold a meeting to gather residents' opinions and transparently share the status and problems surrounding the incinerator construction process, along with its clear response measures. It plans to deliver a resolution opposing the incinerator's construction to the city.
The district will commission an investigative analysis to objectively verify the impact of the incinerator's construction on the local community. Based on the findings, it plans to review problems with the project's implementation and formulate a response. District Mayor Park Sang-jun said, "We will mobilize all the administrative resources and authority available to the district to block the construction of the incinerator."
