Mexico President After Meeting Lee: "Stray Kids to Perform Tomorrow, Hope for BTS Visit Next Year"

 【Financial News, Mexico City, Mexico—Choi Jong-geun, Reporter】Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on the 24th (local time), shortly after her summit with President Lee Jae Myung, that there was strong local interest in K-pop. She added, "Stray Kids will perform tomorrow, and we look forward to BTS visiting in 2027." The two countries also agreed to build a center to support activities related to Korean culture, including K-pop.
President Sheinbaum made the remarks during a joint press statement following the Korea–Mexico summit at the presidential palace in Mexico City. "When we look at exchanges among young people in both societies and their enthusiasm for K-pop and K-food, we can see how much the peoples of the two countries have in common and how much affection they have for each other," she said.
In particular, President Sheinbaum introduced the initiative by saying, "I received a briefing today on one important project." She added, "With President Lee's permission to speak about it, I agreed to the proposal to build a center to continue supporting activities related to Korean culture, including K-pop."
She also said, "We agreed to support various ways of introducing Mexican culture in Korea," expressing an intention to expand cultural exchanges between the two countries in both directions.
President Sheinbaum explained that the "2026–2030 Korea–Mexico Joint Action Plan," adopted during the summit, would serve as a benchmark for advancing bilateral relations. The governments of the two countries signed a total of 17 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) covering economic and development cooperation, academic exchanges, culture, tourism, science and technology, and other areas.
She said, "We want to draw up detailed working-level plans covering intellectual property rights, agriculture, public security and defense, and further expand cooperation between the two countries to achieve tangible results."
