Trump-Xi Meeting Ends After 3 Hours and 22 Minutes; Trump Calls It "A Very Good Meeting"

Immediately after the meeting, President Trump described it as "a very good meeting," but declined to disclose what agreements, if any, had been reached on key issues such as Taiwan and artificial intelligence (AI). The White House has also yet to release specific details about the meeting's outcome.
According to the White House on the 24th local time, Xi Jinping left the White House at 1:29 p.m. He departed 3 hours and 22 minutes after arriving at 10:07 a.m.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump personally greeted Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan when their vehicle arrived at the White House's south entrance. The two leaders each delivered remarks in the White House Grand Foyer, exchanged gifts and attended an official welcoming ceremony. The White House is treating Xi Jinping's visit as a state visit.
The main summit was held in President Trump's office, the Oval Office. It consisted of a small-group meeting followed by an expanded meeting. Apart from photographs taken at the start, both sessions were closed to the press.
U.S.-China trade, competition in advanced technologies including AI, and the Taiwan issue were expected to be major topics at the meeting. Before the summit, the two countries had also been discussing the formation of a bilateral dialogue mechanism to address AI security issues.
After the meeting, the two leaders took a walk together on the White House South Lawn. They also toured the recently completed helipad, and President Trump personally escorted Xi Jinping inside the presidential helicopter Marine One, which was parked nearby.
President Donald Trump later told reporters, "We had a very good meeting." When asked whether they had discussed Taiwan, AI and the case of Jimmy Lai, a Hong Kong pro-democracy media figure, President Trump did not answer. The White House press pool reported that Xi Jinping also declined to respond to related questions.
As Xi Jinping boarded his vehicle and departed the White House, President Trump again emphasized to reporters that it had been "a very good meeting." The extent to which the two countries reached agreement on sensitive issues is expected to become clear through an official White House announcement.
The leaders' schedules are not yet over. That evening, President Donald Trump and Melania Trump will host a state dinner for Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan in the White House East Room. On the 25th, they will have tea at the White House before visiting the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Washington, D.C. together. The state visit is expected to conclude when President Donald Trump and Melania Trump see Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan off.
