Busan International Performing Arts Market Seeks Ways to Boost Distribution Outcomes in Global Markets

[Financial News] With the Busan International Performing Arts Market set to take place in Busan next month, the Busan Cultural Foundation said on the 24th that it would strengthen networking programs and create opportunities for discussion to improve the market's practical distribution outcomes this year.
This year's market (BPAM) will strengthen its networking programs alongside its performances to promote substantive exchanges and distribution outcomes.
Participation in all three major networking programs—booths, one-on-one meetings and pitching—has increased from last year. The booth program will run for four days, allowing participants to receive distribution consultations throughout the event.
One-on-one meetings are scheduled to bring together about 40 carefully selected delegates and artists. The pitching program will also run for two days, with eight delegate teams and 32 artist teams taking part. Artists and delegates from countries including the United States, Australia and Romania will deliver presentations aimed at facilitating distribution.
The market will also expand its seminar offerings. Next Talk, the market's seminar program, will be held at 10 a.m. on the 2nd and 5th of next month at Minseok Small Theater.
The Next Talk session on the 2nd of next month will focus on "A Paradigm Shift in Performing Arts Distribution: New Collaborations and Their Possibilities." Unlike in the past, when touring completed works was central to distribution, the concept of a work has recently expanded, leading to more diverse approaches such as co-production, residencies and intellectual property (IP)-based distribution. The session will examine the current state and future prospects of this trend.
The Next Talk session on the 5th will explore regional issues under the theme "Beyond the Campus and Into the Community: A Bridge to Sustainable Growth of the Performing Arts Ecosystem." It will propose solutions to the crises and new challenges facing art colleges in Busan, including arts-related departments and department closures, as well as ways to strengthen universities' role in connecting the performing arts ecosystem with local communities.
The following afternoon, on the 6th, BPAM Academy: Connect will be held at the Book Cafe Lounge at Dongseo University. Faisal Kiwe, an artistic director of an East African festival, and Lea Philippe, a director of the Canadian festival FAR, will each introduce their performing arts platforms and discuss the role of the overseas performing arts distribution sector.
