U.S. Federal Court Halts White House Access Ban on CNN and Other Outlets

[Financial News] A White House access ban imposed by the Donald Trump administration on CNN, MS NOW and Politico was halted by a U.S. federal court on the 24th (local time).
According to reports from major U.S. media outlets, Judge Timothy Kelly of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia granted a motion filed by the three outlets. He issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) and ordered the restoration of their White House access privileges.
A TRO is a temporary measure that a judge may issue when a situation is deemed highly urgent under the U.S. judicial system. It is issued to maintain the status quo before the court decides whether to grant an injunction, which generally requires a formal hearing and proceedings. The TRO is valid for 14 days, and the case is expected to undergo more thorough review and hearings during that period, as is customary.
On the 18th, Trump announced that the three media outlets would be barred from the White House, accusing them of being "fake news." The outlets filed motions for a TRO, arguing that they had been targeted because of their reporting, discriminated against based on their viewpoints, and that the access ban "clearly violates" the First Amendment, which protects press freedom.
