North Korean Weightlifter Pang Un-chol Wins Silver [Nagoya Asian Games]

[Financial News] North Korean weightlifter Pang Un-chol won a silver medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
On the 24th, Pang lifted a total of 301 kilograms in the men's 60-kilogram weightlifting event held at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center in Nagoya, Japan.
Pang recorded 127 kilograms in the snatch, finishing in a tie for third place, 11 kilograms behind China's Yang Yang (138 kilograms). He appeared to have been shaken psychologically after his first attempt was overturned and ruled a failure by the jury.
However, Pang lifted 170 kilograms on his first clean and jerk attempt, overtaking Yang Yang (166 kilograms in the clean and jerk). He then successfully lifted 174 kilograms on his second attempt, tying the world record he held and setting a new competition record. This narrowed the gap with Yang Yang's total of 304 kilograms to 3 kilograms.
Seeking to challenge for the gold medal, Pang entered 178 kilograms—4 kilograms more—for his third clean and jerk attempt. Unfortunately, he failed and had to settle for the silver medal.
