Governor Wi Seong-gon Checks Shopping Prices and Emergency Room on First Day of Chuseok Holiday; Jeju Activates Emergency Price and Medical Response Systems

【Financial News, Jeju—Reporter Jeong Yong-bok】 On the 24th, the first day of the Chuseok holiday, Wi Seong-gon, governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, visited Seogwipo Hyangto 5-Day Market and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Seogwipo Medical Center in succession to inspect shopping prices and emergency medical services during the holiday. Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will manage holiday staple prices and operate an emergency medical system through the 27th.
Governor Wi Seong-gon visited Seogwipo Hyangto 5-Day Market that morning to check the prices and sales of food items for ancestral rites, including vegetables, fruit and fish. He personally purchased the items and exchanged holiday greetings with merchants and residents. He also heard suggestions regarding market operations from Kim Jae-hong, chairman of the Seogwipo Hyangto 5-Day Market Merchants' Association, and its executives.
One of the key livelihood issues that Jeju Special Self-Governing Province addresses first during the holiday is the price of holiday staples.
The province is inspecting prices in six areas, including commercial transaction practices and agricultural, livestock and fishery products. It has expanded its shopping price survey from once a week to twice a week and is closely managing prices for 13 major services while operating a reporting channel for price gouging. It is also checking country-of-origin labeling for agricultural products and the supply-and-demand conditions for livestock and fishery products.
Measures to boost local consumption are also being implemented. Tamna Jeon users can earn points on monthly spending of up to 1 million won, with a maximum accrual of 100,000 won. An additional 5% incentive is provided when customers use Good Price Stores. e-Jeju Mall and e-Jeju Shop are also holding Chuseok discount events.
Governor Wi said, "Prices of goods in holiday shopping baskets are the livelihood issue closest to residents. We will closely monitor the supply and prices of holiday staples and make sure holiday spending supports traditional markets and local businesses."

After inspecting the market, Governor Wi moved to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Seogwipo Medical Center. He visited the emergency room, hemodialysis unit and wards in succession, encouraged the medical staff and employees working during the holiday, and checked the response to emergency patients. He also heard from medical staff about difficulties they face during the treatment process.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will maintain its emergency medical system from the 24th through the 27th. It will prevent service gaps at emergency medical institutions and designate hospitals, clinics and pharmacies to remain open during the holiday. Moonlight Children's Hospital and public late-night pharmacies will also support access to medical care during the holiday. Governor Wi said, "I thank the medical staff and employees who are staying at the front lines to protect residents' lives and health even during a holiday that should be spent with their families. We will inspect the public healthcare system to ensure that there are no gaps in emergency or essential medical services."
The holiday response extends beyond prices and medical care. Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will operate a special transportation measures control room and offer free access to 139 public parking lots, with 8,510 spaces, from the 24th through the 27th. It will continuously monitor weather and flight operations at Jeju International Airport and activate emergency transportation measures in the event of flight cancellations or delays.
In the tourism sector, the province will operate five teams from the 24th through the 27th, including a comprehensive situation team, a casino team, a tourism information center, and an airport and port information and complaints team. They will handle tourist complaints, provide transportation, lodging and tourist-site information, and respond to travelers stranded at the airport because of severe weather.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province plans to maintain emergency response systems in the areas of prices and emergency medical care, tourism and transportation, and civil services through the 27th.
