[Financial News] Seungri, 35, a former member of BigBang whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, is facing a complaint on special assault charges. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing him at the time of the incident has been released.
On the 23rd, JTBC released CCTV footage showing Seungri arguing with a man in his 30s, identified as A, at a restaurant in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, early on August 8.
Seungri and two other men were standing around A, who was seated in a chair. Appearing angry, Seungri pushed A's arm a couple of times before picking up a soju bottle from the table. His companions then stopped him.
Seungri also appeared to make a motion as if kicking something. He later picked up the soju bottle again and swung his arm, repeating a similar motion several times.
A claimed, "The three of them stood there, blocked the passage so I couldn't get out, and threatened me while swinging the bottle. Once, I was assaulted as I blocked it with my hand and tried to grab it."
A said that Seungri's group first picked a fight with him, asking, 'Why are you taking pictures?' He described the situation at the time, saying that Seungri made threatening remarks: "Do you also think I'm a loser? I have gangsters backing me, and they're all connected. Killing you would be no big deal."
Seungri's side, however, maintains that A first asked to join them, saying, 'I have a business idea.' Although Seungri did pick up a soju bottle while refusing the request, his side denied any physical contact or threats and said that Seungri and A exchanged text messages.
A filed a criminal complaint against three people, including Seungri, on the 26th of last month, 18 days after the incident. As the two sides offer conflicting accounts, police plan to investigate the details of the case after the Chuseok holiday.
Seungri debuted with BigBang in 2006 but left the group and was expelled from the entertainment industry after being identified as a key figure in the 2019 Burning Sun scandal. He was later brought to trial on nine charges, including prostitution, arranging prostitution, violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, and habitual gambling. The Supreme Court upheld a sentence of one year and six months in prison in May 2022. He served the sentence and was released in February 2023.
