Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City: "Heal at Namdo's Natural and Ecological Attractions During the Chuseok Holiday"

 Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City (Gwangju Metropolitan City) will open Wando Arboretum, Yeosu Marine and Fisheries Science Museum, and Gurye Seomjin River Fish Ecology Center free of charge or operate them normally from the 24th to the 27th during the Chuseok holiday so that returnees visiting their hometowns and tourists can enjoy Namdo's nature and ecology and spend a relaxing time.
 First, Wando Arboretum, a 2,033-hectare warm-temperate forest arboretum, will open some areas free of charge from the 24th to the 27th. Visitors will be able to use 31 specialized gardens, excluding the Forest Museum, as well as the subtropical greenhouse, walking trails, hiking trails, and other indoor and outdoor facilities.
 Ahn Byeong-seok, director of Wando Arboretum at the Gwangju Metropolitan City Forest Research Institute, said, "Wando Arboretum is home to about 814 species of native plants, including camellias and ring-cupped oaks." He added, "I hope families visiting Wando Arboretum during the Chuseok holiday can enjoy the natural scenery where warm-temperate forests meet the sea and spend a relaxed and comfortable holiday."


 The Gwangju Metropolitan City Marine and Fisheries Science Institute will also operate the Yeosu Marine and Fisheries Science Museum and Gurye Seomjin River Fish Ecology Center normally from the 24th to the 27th.
 The Yeosu Marine and Fisheries Science Museum displays about 5,000 marine creatures from 100 species, including native fish from the southern coast and tropical ornamental fish. It also operates an interactive exhibition space where families can observe marine life up close.
 This year, the museum improved its exhibition and video content, including a complete renovation of the existing 3D theater. It is also expanding exhibition services that combine hands-on experiences with marine life education by introducing content incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) technology.


 The Gurye Seomjin River Fish Ecology Center displays about 150 species of aquatic life from Korea and abroad, including otters designated as natural monuments and native fish from the Seomjin River basin. During the Chuseok holiday, it will also operate a traditional games area where the whole family can enjoy activities such as tuho, top-spinning, and jegichagi.
 The Yeosu Marine and Fisheries Science Museum and the Seomjin River Fish Ecology Center will also host a special exhibition for the "2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu Korea." Holders of exhibition tickets can enter the exhibition free of charge, while exhibition visitors will receive a 2,000-won discount on admission to the event.
 Kim Du-yong, director of the eastern branch of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Marine and Fisheries Science Institute, said, "I hope returnees visiting their hometowns and tourists during Chuseok can view and enjoy a variety of marine and aquatic life with their families and have a pleasant time."
