[Financial News] The estimated damages from a suspected hacking incident involving crypto asset wallet service D'CENT (DCENT) are believed to have reached tens of billions of won. Overseas on-chain analytics firms estimate that more than 10 million XRP were withdrawn in the large-scale asset theft.
According to the crypto asset industry on the 24th, D'CENT operator IoTrust submitted its internal analysis findings to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) on the 22nd and requested the issuance of a cyber crisis alert to warn users.
IoTrust launched an emergency investigation after detecting an abnormal asset transfer from the D'CENT app wallet on the 16th. The company is examining the incident's precise scope, considering the possibility that it may not be limited to its own service.
In particular, IoTrust shared details with KISA to investigate whether the technology used to generate wallet random numbers was linked to the incident and to determine whether similar incidents were spreading. No similar losses have yet been confirmed in wallets other than D'CENT. KISA is also reportedly conducting its own technical review.
Bitcoin, Tether (USDT), and other crypto assets, in addition to XRP, are also believed to have been affected. As a result, the actual scale of the losses could be larger.
Blockchain security firm SlowMist estimates the total losses at approximately $6.57 million.
IoTrust has advised D'CENT app wallet users to update to the latest version and refrain from conducting transactions through the app wallet until the update is complete.
