[Financial News] Broadcaster Kim Soo-yong has drawn attention after revealing stock trading records totaling tens of billions of won over the past six years.
Kim Soo-yong appeared on the recently released Netflix variety show 'Ant Kim Won-hoon: The World of Stocks,' where he discussed stocks with Kim Won-hoon. During the conversation, he also showed his actual stock account.
According to the disclosed account records, Kim Soo-yong purchased approximately 21.1 billion won worth of stocks from July 2020 through last July and sold about 23.9 billion won worth. His cumulative trading value over six years reached the 40 billion won range, while his realized profit and loss stood at approximately 112 million won.
Kim Won-hoon was visibly surprised, saying, "You sold more than 20 billion won. You're truly an expert and a master." Kim Soo-yong responded that he had started investing in stocks in 1999. He said he first opened an account after visiting a securities firm in Yeouido with 20 million won in investment capital.
Kim Soo-yong, who has traded stocks since the days of the Home Trading System (HTS), explained that his investment style centers on short-term trading, an approach involving buying and selling within a short period. He also shared his personal investment rule: "If the downtrend continues, I close out within a week. If it doesn't work out, you have to sell immediately."
Meanwhile, after suffering a health crisis caused by acute myocardial infarction, Kim Soo-yong said on a YouTube channel he appeared on that he had recovered in a single year the amount he had lost over his lifetime. This led to speculation that he had hit it big in stocks. However, he previously clarified, "I simply closed out as soon as my losses turned into a gain; it's not that I made a huge profit."
