[Financial News] Chinese President Xi Jinping made a state visit to the United States for a U.S.-China summit, marking his first such visit in 11 years. U.S. President Donald Trump personally went to Joint Base Andrews to welcome Xi and Peng Liyuan.
The aircraft carrying Xi Jinping landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, near Washington, D.C., at 5:39 p.m. on the 23rd (local time). Xi's state visit to the United States comes 11 years after his previous one in 2015, during Barack Obama's presidency.
President Donald Trump personally went to Joint Base Andrews with his wife, Melania Trump, to welcome Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan.
President Donald Trump arrived at Joint Base Andrews in an official vehicle at 5:59 p.m. After briefly waiting in front of the red carpet, he shook hands with Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan in turn as they stepped off their aircraft. The two leaders then spoke for about eight minutes before leaving the base in their respective official vehicles.
Xi Jinping will carry out a two-night, three-day visit to the United States through the 25th. At the U.S.-China summit, the two countries are expected to discuss key issues, including tariffs, rare earths, artificial intelligence (AI), and Taiwan.
Xi Jinping will hold a summit with President Donald Trump at the White House on the 24th and attend a state dinner that evening. On the morning of the 25th, the two leaders and their wives will share refreshments in the White House Red Room before traveling to the National Archives in Washington, D.C., to view records and documents significant to the history of U.S.-China relations. President Donald Trump and Melania Trump will see Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan off there, bringing the state visit to an end.
