President Lee Jae Myung on Fake News About 'Restoration of First Lady Kim Hye-kyung's Birthplace': "A Crime That Defames Another Person's Reputation"

[Financial News]  President Lee Jae Myung, who is visiting New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, said on the 23rd (local time) that online posts falsely claiming that the restoration of his wife Kim Hye-kyung's birthplace was being pursued constituted "a crime that defames another person's reputation."
That day, President Lee shared a post on his X account, formerly Twitter, that mentioned the "launch of a committee to promote the restoration of Kim Hye-kyung's birthplace" and included remarks criticizing the initiative.
President Lee explained that the talk of restoring the site of her birthplace was "an incident that occurred in July 2025. As soon as the absurd talk of restoring the birthplace became controversial, I sternly warned those involved, and it is already a dead issue," emphasizing that the claims were untrue.
He added, "Criticism is free, but presenting something that has already ended as if it were happening now is not freedom of expression; it is a crime that defames another person's reputation," stressing, "We should refrain from attacking people based on words they never said or events that never happened, treating them as facts."
