[Financial News] YouTube, the world's largest video platform operated by Google, has introduced a wide range of AI features, including command-based personalized feeds and a question-answering function. The move is expected to enable users to take the lead in receiving video recommendations optimized for their interests, rather than relying solely on the platform's algorithm-driven recommendation system.
Google announced the 'Personalized Feed' feature at its annual 'Made on YouTube' event in New York on the 23rd (local time). The feature creates a dedicated feed based on commands users enter as if conversing with a chatbot. For example, if a user asks for podcasts or documentaries suited to their tastes for the commute, Google's AI model Gemini fulfills the request and recommends relevant content.
Unlike in the past, when YouTube tracked viewing patterns and made recommendations according to algorithms set by the platform, users will now be able to watch content optimized for their interests.
YouTube has also enhanced the 'Ask YouTube' feature, which lets users ask AI questions while watching videos. Viewers can receive comparison tables organized by attributes while watching product review videos and continue with follow-up questions.
A feature has also been added that allows users to post comments by voice when watching YouTube on a living-room TV without a separate keyboard.
YouTube has also introduced the 'Shorts Series' feature, which organizes short-form YouTube Shorts videos by season and episode, allowing viewers to watch short dramas consecutively like a television series.
The 'Live Automatic Dubbing' feature, which translates the audio of live broadcasts into other languages in real time, is scheduled to enter pilot testing early next year.
YouTube has also expanded its AI tools to reduce the production burden on creators.
By simply entering commands in a chat window, users can have AI perform tasks such as cutting silent sections from an original video, editing footage to match the beat of music and adding captions.
The platform also plans to introduce an 'A/B testing' feature that allows creators to upload up to three edited versions of a video and compare which one receives the best response from viewers.
It has also introduced a feature that combines facial recognition with voice-synthesis detection to identify unauthorized use, helping protect creators' rights, including rights to their likeness and voice.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said, "YouTube creators are defining the culture of our time. It is our responsibility to stay ahead of how the world creates, discovers and connects."
Meanwhile, YouTube has extended through 2030 its exclusive broadcasting partnership with the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (Coachella), a global music festival held every April.
