Preparing for Cyberattacks During Chuseok... Cheong Wa Dae Inspects More Than 100 Systems Vital to Daily Life

[Financial News] Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, Cheong Wa Dae inspected the cybersecurity of more than 100 information systems vital to people’s daily lives, including those in the communications, finance, transportation and safety sectors. During the holiday, a civilian-government-military joint cyber situation room will operate around the clock to monitor cyberthreats and respond to emergencies.
Cheong Wa Dae said on the 23rd that, together with relevant ministries and agencies, it had conducted preliminary security checks on major information systems in communications and finance, transportation services such as railways, aviation and buses, and public safety services including 112 and 119.
During the Chuseok holiday, travel and the use of financial and communications services surge, while staffing at institutions and companies declines. As a result, a cyberattack or outage affecting a major system could have a greater impact on people’s daily lives.
To respond swiftly to cyberthreats that may arise during the holiday, Cheong Wa Dae will establish a civilian-government-military joint cyber situation room at KISA.
The joint cyber situation room will share cyberthreat information among national and public institutions, the private sector and the military, while checking for signs of anomalies. If a major cyberthreat occurs, it will also support the dissemination of situation updates among relevant agencies, as well as joint analysis and response.
