Police: "No discussions held on forming an insurrection special investigation headquarters; investigation structure under review"

[Financial News] The police are reviewing the records of 46 unresolved cases transferred from the Second Comprehensive Special Prosecutor Team while considering a follow-up investigation structure. They emphasized that no specific discussions have yet taken place on forming a special investigation headquarters or conducting a joint investigation with the Serious Crime Investigation Agency.
The Korean National Police Agency said on the 23rd, "We have received a total of 46 cases from the Second Comprehensive Special Prosecutor Team and are carefully reviewing the case records while considering an appropriate investigation structure."
In February, Kwon Chang-young's Second Comprehensive Special Prosecutor Team was launched to investigate gaps and additional allegations related to the so-called three major special prosecutor cases—the insurrection, Kim Keon-hee, and Marine death-in-the-line-of-duty cases. After completing 180 days of investigation, the Second Comprehensive Special Prosecutor Team transferred 46 unresolved cases involving 150 suspects to the National Office of Investigation under the Korean National Police Agency.
As the police have taken over the follow-up investigations, the possibility of establishing a separate investigation structure has also been raised.
Amid these developments, reports recently emerged that President Lee Jae Myung was considering ordering the formation of a special investigation headquarters for the insurrection case after returning to the country. Other options reportedly under review include having the police handle the investigation initially and expanding the organization after the Serious Crime Investigation Agency is launched.
The police explained, "To date, no specific discussions have taken place within the police regarding the formation of a special investigation headquarters or a joint investigation with the Serious Crime Investigation Agency."
They added, "We will complete our review of the records soon and announce the decision separately once the investigation structure has been determined."
